Hello everyone!
It’s been a year and a half since the historic vote, here at Titmouse, that created the first IATSE animation union in Canada. The journey that got us that amazing victory was long and winding, but even that was only the beginning. Since then, Titmouse workers negotiated and ratified the first Collective Agreement in Canadian animation, securing these valuable improvements:
- Thorough and defined overtime procedures
- Transparent wage minimums for all positions, first of its kind in Canadian animation
- A grievance process to prevent harassment in the workplace
- More sick days, with the opportunity for half days and personal days
- Improved Retirement Savings Plan through CEIRP
- Trained shop stewards to protect against workplace violations
- A democratic voice in their place of work
- Many other improvements delineated in the Collective Agreement
- The chance to win even more improvements, with regularly scheduled renegotiations
Now, after months of work setting up our Local’s infrastructure, we are finally ready for the next step: Our First Membership General Meeting of 2022!
As stated in our Local’s constitution, membership meetings will be held quarterly from now on. This gives you an opportunity to bring your issues to your union representatives, the dashing volunteers of your very own Local’s Executive Board! Not only that, but you will take an active role in voting for resolutions, constitutional amendments, getting a good look at our yearly budget, and elect officials for any positions that may be unfilled.
General meetings are a democratic process that are vital to building a union that works for all workers. For this first meeting especially, we would like each and every one of you to consider what you want this union to look like in the long term, and what gains you wish to see for this industry in general.
Point us to where you want this industry to be, and we’re gonna fight tooth and nail to get us there.
If you have any questions or concerns ahead of the meeting (or if you'd just like to tell us a funny story), let us know in this anonymous inbox:

We hope to see you all on MARCH 3rd, 2022, at 7pm

2021 CANADIAN ANIMATION WAGE SHARE
In addition to this meeting, The Canadian Animation Guild would like to announce that it will be sponsoring the renewed Canadian Animation Wage Share! The wage share anonymously collects pay information from Canadian animation workers, and measures them across provincial, experience, and gender lines to promote transparency within the industry. The results of this wage share will be published as a clean, easy to read report that workers will be able to consult to help them negotiate fair wages!
Fill out the survey below, and help ensure pay transparency in animation:
