Overdue Payments

What if I pay my Quarterly Dues late?

Quarterly dues are considered late after the end of the quarter they are owed in.

If you do not settle your Quarterly dues before the end of the Quarter, a $50 late fee will be applied to your account for every Quarter that payment remains delinquent (up to 3 consecutive Quarters).

If a late fee is applied to your account, your membership will become Not In Good Standing.

What Does 'Not In Good Standing' Mean?

Being Not In Good Standing means that you have outstanding dues or late fees with the Local. You will be unable to participate in member-specific benefits, events, virtual spaces, or opportunities that the Local or associated Committees organize (unless the event is specifically open to non-members).

  • This can also affect your employment status, if you are currently employed at a unionized workplace that requires membership in Good Standing as a condition of employment.

  • You may be unable to run for office in Local elections, since one of the eligibility requirements is a membership in continuous good standing for a period of two (2) years.

If you miss 3 consecutive Quarters of payments, you will be expelled from membership in CAG 938.

This will mean that you can no longer work in spaces governed by IATSE (including those in live action film, television, or stages) in Canada, the United States, and its Territories.

  • Quarterly dues for each missed Quarter will be accrued for the entirety of the period of expulsion.
  • The period of expulsion will continue until the expelled member settles their owed dues & fees and brings their membership back to Good Standing.
  • Once in Good Standing, a member may then request Honourable Withdrawal, which will allow them to leave membership without accruing dues or fees for the duration of their withdrawal.

Being expelled from membership can be rectified, but if left unchecked, it can also become very costly as time progresses.

If you are experiencing an unexpected financial burden, and are unable to settle your outstanding balance, please make use of our Dues Assistance Policy + Dues Assistance Application Form.

It is strongly advised that you settle your accounts and request Honourable Withdrawal as soon as such an option becomes relevant to your circumstances. If you require any assistance in navigating your specific situation, please reach out to any member of the Executive Board as soon as possible.
